What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis means excessive sweating of the underarms, hands and feet – all of which are usually very annoying and can interfere with social activities. Botox and Dysport are both FDA approved, easy to inject, safe and effective for the treatment of severe underarm sweating when topical agents prove to be ineffective. How can Botox or Dysport control my excessive sweating?
Botox and Dysport treatments help control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands do not receive these chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.
What is the treatment with Botox or Dysport like?
The procedure is relatively straightforward. A small volume of Botox or Dysport solution is injected through a very fine needle into the affected underarm area, hands or feet, just underneath the skin. The procedure is tolerated very well and possible injection-related discomfort can be easily controlled with pre-numbing, icing, or cooling of the skin if needed. Multiple tiny injections are performed based on Dr. Shafa’s assessment of the area that requires treatment.
What should I expect after I have received Botox or Dysport treatment?
You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within 4 weeks of your first treatment. There is a possibility that some sweat glands may be missed, and you may continue to experience some sweating from the untreated areas. If you do not see a significant reduction in sweating, please do not hesitate to contact our office for a follow-up consultation. View the Similarities and Differences between Botox and Dysport
